Coaching or Therapy

I found the book a mixture of some valuable insights and some confused concepts. Ms. Cockerham quotes dialogues where the coach makes mind-reading statements. She quotes one group member “giving feedback” to another, “You thought Harry had had enough time, and you were determined to get in.” That is not feedback, it is the coach’s evaluation. How did the coach know what he “thought” or that he was “determined” to do something? Those are examples of what we call mind-reading (p. 57).
In the few examples of a coaching conversation, there is advice given, corrections about the client being wrong, rhetorical questions leading to where the coach wants to go rather than the client. This strikes me as perhaps more appropriate for therapy and certainly not for coaching.

A Brilliant Find for Coaches!

Ginger Cockerham MCC proves, once again, why she is a master at creating and running coaching groups. This book is a treasure for the coach who wants to add group work to their offerings, and is written with a true sense of clarity and purpose that can only come from years of experience in the field. I recommend it without reservation to my own group coaching students in the courses I teach on the subject. Other trainers and consultants can benefit from this rich resource as well!
