A good book actually. Might be able to go without it though if you copy/print the tables in the back and take them to class. I honestly did not even read much of the book itself, maybe a little for reference. Pretty easy class IMO. Rent this book, don't buy it. You will not need it or even want to look at it after the class is over.

Not for serious classes

If you are an economics student who already has a few classes under your belt, then you'll probably be fine with this book. As someone who has not, and was required to take this class, it was a HORRIBLE book to learn from. There is no step by step to this book, it just writes out question and then has the answer. Does not give you the details at all. Similarly, it will have a page or so for each section within the chapter and then 12 practice questions that are completely different.

Bottom line is if your professor requires this book, consider a different professor. If your school uses this book, they aren't serious about engineering economy.

Good theory book

Used in for a mechanical engineering course elective. This was the required text and there are a couple newer versions of this text that I saw but there isn't much change other than page numbering. For the most part the book is good at presenting a method or theory and then having clear examples that follow and give a good explanation. For the most part this is a good book but other than being a required text or just wanting it for a general interest a newer version of the book would probably be what you'll be picking up.

Left leaning bias.

well, in a nutshell I would have to say there is significant leftist bias in the overall book. There are some chapters that are balanced and instruct the student as to what happened with different perspectives as to 'why' something happened. But overall the authors / editors allowed tremendous bias to flow throughout. A general example is that Nicaragua was on track with financial arrangements with The Soviets, Czechoslovakia and Cuba. No mention whatsoever to the encroachment of communism and US efforts to stop communism. It conveys to a reader nothing of that side of the events that occurred. We see this in other text books as well from time to time depending on the topics. If you have a left leaning (maybe even far left leaning) perspective you'll see no problems with the book. The book does cover a lot of ground and accurately portrays the failures of Latin America countries in their continuous journey to democracy. Might mention competing theories as to why so many women are 'placed' to lead these countries over the years.
